There has been a lot of talk on the ol' internerd this past week or so of holidays. Must be the reappearance of the sun that has got everyone thinking of beaches and pool side loungers...
Me and the Little Man are heading up north to Windermere in 5 weeks time with the rest of the family (my parents, siblings and assorted littlies...) We are going to visit my nan (LM's great-grandma) who is in her 80's and convinced she's not going to be around much longer (her mum lived til she was 99 so we suspect she has a few years in her yet!) We are renting a house in the town and will all be staying together for a whole week...
I am looking forward to it, obviously, but I really can't think of it as a holiday.
There's the six or seven hours up the motorway to get there (and home again). The inevitable family 'politics', disagreements that are bound to crop up, especially after spending seven hours squished in a car... The differences in routines, tastes in food and TV, toddler squabbles, lack of sleep and the 'So, what are we all going to do today' conversation at breakfast is going to be fun...
Plus the Other Half won't be there.
*Sigh*
But you know, it got me thinking about the Perfect Holiday.
A week at Butlins with loads to keep Little Man occupied would be ok. A camping trip somewhere near the sea, just the three of us, would be cool (so, so wish our vintage camper was not STILL rusting away in the drive...) as long as the weather was nice. Not really bothered about going abroad for the sake of it and a Med beach/pool/sun holiday holds no appeal to me whatsoever...
But the Perfect Holiday?
Well I hate to sound selfish but it would be just me, in a little cabin in the middle of nowhere, with no TV, no laptop, no clocks, no interruptions, no dirty bums to clean, no picky eaters to cater for, no early risers or 3am wake-up calls, no tantrums, no washing, ironing, cleaning... Just a couple of days of peace and tranquillity in a comfy chair with a good view, loads of books, some nice wine and munchies. Maybe some crochet... It would be heavenly.
Then I would come home to hugs and kisses and an appreciation of just how much I do for them...well, maybe...
What would your perfect holiday be? A family trip to Disneyland? A road trip? Or just a few days off from everything....
That sounds blissful! I would join you, but that would defeat the object! ;)
